My first born is now 10 years old! Today was his birthday.
My husband is just getting ready for a long soak in the tub now after all the festivities.
When he steps out of the tub this the new bath mat where his squeaky clean toes will end up on.
I used Amy Butler pre-cut charms, sewing the squares together by hand. The backing is a sturdy twill. I just tied off with embroidery floss at the intersections for easy quilting. Plus I did a tiny bit of embroidery in one of the squares just to add a little extra dimension and to highlight the flower.
These little girl toes like the new bathmat too.
Oh Happy Birthday ten year old! How exciting to be double digits. Now loving your new bathmat. Wouldn't mind making one of those myself. Never thought about making one actually but Yes, why not? Is is just a small quilt really?

What a great idea! Pretty embellishments and a pretty addition to your bath decor, too!

I hope you had a lovely birthday weekend in your house (mine is tomorrow and I'll be at work and then badminton and then dinner with friends so it will be ok) - the new bathmat looks fab.

I love the bath mat. I have been wanting to make one for ages now, but kept forgetting. You inspired me again, thanks! By the way, do you have wooden floors in your bathroom?
And ofcourse: Happy BIrthday Ten Year Old!

Hi karin!
Great to hear from you! Thanks for your nice words! No, we dont have wooden floors in our bathroom. I tried to photograph it in the bathroom but the light there is terrible and the colors on the pictures then turned out all wrong. So I photogrpahed it in the livingroom instead next to the window.

Oh, that bathmat totally puts my old Ikea one to shame. It's beautiful! Wow! To be mother to a ten year-old. Sounds like the festivities were worthy of a ten year-old boy.

What a lovely bath mat, I feel quite ashamed of my raggedy old mat now, you have inspired me.

I went on "vacation" without my lap top and I missed you, Emily. I am glad to be back. I LOVE the idea of a quilted bathmat - I don't know why those ideas don't come into my head on their own. I am glad that you are here to put them in my wee little head. Carolina

I love your new bathmat! I didn't know you could get Amy Butler charm squares, no, don't tell me where from! I have enough fabric! What did you use to make it absorbant?

Happy Birthday to your son. My second child turned 10 in July... it truly is a big milestone for the child and the parents(where did the time go...?)
I love your bath mat too, lovely colors. We need all the color we can get as the long nights of winter are upon us. Thank-you Emily for your beautiful work!

It's a perfect match when functionality and beauty get together. I wish more quilted goodies were tied. I like the nostalgic feel they have.
Hope you are having a wonderful week!

Usually I hate bathmats, but my husband insists on having a white flossy one. Yours was beautiful though! Yum! I also wear my jeans til they fall apart and I never know which form is in fashion at the moment :-)

It's so beautiful! One question though, how do you keep it from being too slippery? Do you have the anti-slip thing under it? Thanks -
Posted by: Susan | November 12, 2010 at 06:05 AM
Hi Susan! Thank you so much! It isnt slippery. We have an old fashioned linoleum floor with fine groves in it so the mat stays put on it. Our bathroom floor is the original from when our home was built. It is so old that it will soon be back in style I am sure! It works very well and since I am a stay at home mom we dont have a fortune sitting around to remodel...

Den er kjempefin Emily, og det er imponerende hvordan du legger ned så mye tid med detaljerte sting i en badematte.

That is the cutest bathmat I've ever seen! And it's such a great idea. I think I need to go make a new bathmat now....
