When you have a favorite pair of jeans that fit just right you don't want to just toss them due to a little hole or two.
I would rather repair them... So I salvaged a old pair of my husband's jeans for patches.
You can see how wearing them with this tear wouldn't be decent for very long... So in no time at all they were good as new:
One of my chickies took this shot for me as this wasn't an easy angle to capture! Does anyone else repair their old jeans? I hope to get lots more use out of these now.
My jeans always rip in those same two spots. Love your tip and the end result! The great thing about jeans is that the older they get the better they look, patches and all.

good heavens, YES! they get repaired and re-repaired and then recycled... i made overalls for my son out of the legs of old jeans that were beyond repair when he was small... for my daughter i once made a skirt of the top part with a gathered contrasted material bottom. now i love designing and making shoulder bags out of really old jeans! just made one that i sent as a christmas gift to the USA... i added zipper-pockets and lined it with a wonderful lady-bug printed fabric.
@christie...
so true! the older they get... the better they look! i claim the same happens with (some) men... :0)

Of course favorite jeans are repaired. Depending where the hole/tear is, I cover it with a heart or flower. After that they become something else ... picnic cloths, pant legs=little bags, pockets=smaller bags for cell phones ... etc.
This way they can continue being used.

Oh Emily ... I am sorry to say that that angle looks NOTHING like what my "angle" would capture if I had repaired a pair of jeans and wanted to put the entire blogosphere through the pain and suffering of seeing such said angle. Kudos to you, though, for having such a cute "angle".
I repair everything , by the way, even things that don't need repairing. I think they look more loved that way. Carolina

I don't know what my husband does but he always seems to rip his jeans around the belt loops. Reattaching loops is not my favorite task, but it's easier than spending $40!

Some favourite things are always hard to throw away. Nice work fixing.
p.s. Cannot believe you guys are already getting snow. You really are on a different planet than the rest of us!

Hhaha, good idea! I think it's easier to patch it up then to go shop for another pair of perfect jeans... thanks for the tip!

that is it exactly! It takes so much time to find another pair that fits! I would prefer to stay home (especially now that it is so cold outside!) and sit under a warm blanket and do a few stitches here and there.

I fixed a favorite pair of mine with a crochet square to hide a tear on the knee. I still wear it, but not too often to keep it from falling apart :-P
Also, I cut mine to transform into skirts, and that's a lot of fun :-D

I repair jeans all the time, and when they are beyond repair I turn them into patches too! Greta job on the patch!

I wouldn't care if I had to patch or buy new jeans everyday if I could have such a nice shot of my back side!

I like to put my patch on the inside, usually something fun like a contrasting and oh so soft flannel for a window pane effect. I sew it on with embroidery floss of yet another color, and have fun embellishing as I go.
I have also made a fun quilt top out of old jeans, patches and all, using the different shades of faded denim. However, I put my seams on the outside and just let the edges fray.

I must admit that I have no patience for fixing old jeans. Instead I have my lovely mother in law who does an extraordinary good job at fixing old jeans! :-)

Not exactly the same as patching, but when I was little and growing too tall for my jeans (which still fit fine everywhere else), my mother crocheted a small strip of granny squares and attached them to the hems of the jeans to add length.

Jeg må lappe olabukser stadig vekk. Guttene sliter stadig hull på klærne sine. Her er en liten oppskrift på hvordan du enkelt lapper bukseknær med stoppefoten.
