I met the most handsome man downtown...
Mom offered to babysit so my husband and I could have a date. It has been nearly a year since our last time out alone.
We strolled around town hand in hand and ended up at Oslo's oldest restaurant, Engebret.
How lovely to sit outside with my honey to a meal that I didn't make and not think about doing the dishes.
The evening was warm and pleasant with the sun shining through the leaves.
And the food was marvelous.
The wait staff supplies were all around the old statue here which made for an interesting combination.
We got home from our date fairly early which gave me time to knit and chat with mom. And now you can see what I am doing with the green yarn. I decided to pair the pretty soft green handspun yarn that we had wound into skeins the other day with brown handspun. The yarn is very special to me. As I said it is handspun, by mom's good friend Helen who passed away some years ago. She made beautiful yarn as well as gorgeous lace shawls. When she died I think she gave her entire stash of handspun yarn to my mother and she has been so kind in sharing some with me. For too long I have just had it on the shelf, waiting for a project special enough. There probably isn't ever a project that will be special enough for this beautiful yarn, but these humble mittens that I am going to felt will have to do. I am crazy about the pale green with the brown.
What a special treat! Sounds like you had a perfect evening. (Your newly begun mittens are beautiful.)

So glad you got a chance to go out. Those times are so special. The yarn is beautiful. I love that you are using something so beautiful to make something that will be used daily.

It is harder to have a truly special yarn of fabric in my stash as well. Every possible project somehow can't live up to the material ... that is until it is done. Those mittens will bring you many memories, not only when they are worn, but also when they are washed. Knitting with such a special yarn is the right thing to do - just like your special date, you just can't "shelf" a marriage waiting for "someday" to come along and have special time together. I just wanted to say I always love seeing your photos; glad you had time with your husband. I remember when my kids were small and now they are 28, 23, & 21. I don't get to check your site as often as in the past - busier at work - it always makes me happy and gives me a moment to appreciate.
Best to you and yours!

What a lovely date! A year since being out alone - wow! I guess it's been so long since I've had young children that I've forgotten all that:)

Oh your date sounds lovely, you must have plenty to catch up on.
Mittens are a perfect use for a special yarn, so much better to make it into something that you will use frequently and will keep you warm, you will appreciate them through the colder months.

Yes, Rebecca, it was really lovely to sit alone together and just enjoy eachother over a delicious meal. Thanks so much for supporting my use of the treasured yarn for something for use everyday. I really like how you put it and you are right, there is no better way than to use it for something we can use all the time! I cant believe the winter months are so fast approaching!
Thanks so much for writing your warm and thougthful comments. I really enjoyed hearing from you.

Thanks so much Carol! I loved hearing from you. Sorry you don't have so much time to surf the web while you are at work, but it must be nice to have plenty to do. Sometimes when blogging seems like a chore it is lovely comments like yours that keep me going. :)
