The arrival of spring invariably means babies; baby birds will be hatching, as well as bunnies, ducks, and even dolly mummies.
This new mother is in a perfect daze of joy with motherhood and amazingly dosen't seem the least bit sleep deprived. The brown and white and mint rose fabrics on mama are both vintage fabrics. Combining vintage fabrics with new ones is such great fun.
I need to show you this sleepy lady, because I learned a new embroidery stitch! Bullions: those are the stitches making up the petals of the flowers on her temple. I was so happy to try, make many ugly ones, and now be approaching mastery of these stitches.
Fru Westerby is just resting her eyes a bit. Her lace collar is atop a pretty vintage fabric, a Norwegian one by Sandvika Veveri. Whenever I find a vintage Sandvika fabric when thrifting I give an inner squeal of delight. They make such beautiful fabrics and they were made right outside of Oslo. Fru Westerby's mint green headpiece is also a vintage fabric. I have very little of it left and just use small amounts on special things.
Hope that you are having a most excellent start to the week.
Cool bullions. I'm still working on mastering that stitch. There's a version that's only attached at one end, so they looks a little like polyps standing up from the fabric. Not so appropriate for your lovely ladies, but another funky stitch I'm trying to master for my collages.

So beautiful. Your dolls inspire me so much. They look quite ready for spring. I can't wait to get moved and set up a sewing space so I have a place to bring one of your sweet creations home to. :)

Your dedication to learning a new stitch was certainly worth the effort. I admit I'm a little intimidated by that stitch and haven't worked up the nerve to try it. Now I'm inspired. The bullions are the perfect spring touch.
Thanks for the inspiration!

I love the spring colors. Once I get my own craft room I'm going to bust out and line it with your lovely ladies. :) As always, beautiful work! Your blog is a highlight of my internet reading.

Love those mamas with babies. Makes me a little nostalgic for the days when I carried my babies in slings. They're too big for all that snuggling now. Such pretty dolls!
