Here are my trapped flower buttons again. This time in color. I wish I knew more about them. They seem so special and unique. If anyone has an idea of how they make these, when they were made or other information about this type of buttons I would love to know.
The jars are also from one of my thrifting adventures. I can never have too many containers.
I wonder if you thought the buttons prettier in black and white or in color?
I wonder what you did this weekend and if it seems to fly by for you too? I spent a bit of time sewing and lots of time laughing with my family. My son has been annoying us for a time by scaring us, you know, jumping out from behind a curtain and roaring "Raaaah!" We finally realized that he really wanted us to scare him! Now we are having the most outragous time trying to frighten him. He loves it and we all laugh hysterically, every single time.
I love the colored buttons and I think you could try to make them yourself using dried flowers, chocolate moulds and a two part resin. It is so hot here, our weekend was spent relaxing and swimming! :)

My son gave me a terrific scare this weekend. I screamed and jumped about a foot in the air. Now I know what to do! I'll try scaring him! Beth

Are the buttons carved out from the back, painted (with a tiny paint brush) and then sealed???
See this webpage for description of a brooch made in this way in 1800s (number 27 - Essex crystal Yorkshire Terrier)

i like them all.... like bugs in amber, fossils they remind me of.

I like the buttons in color the best. I use to have the most wonderful Amber ring, but it was stolen.
I finally finished a knitting project that has been packed for, ohhh, 20+ years. A tabbard. It needs to be washed, but then I will post about it on my blog. The best thing about it is that it still fits!!! LOL.

I like the buttons both ways! The color is nice though. Seems to me that as big as they are it would be very hard to use them as actual buttons. Maybe they were made just to be decorative? With snaps underneath? Just a thought.
I sewed on Saturday night... until late...1:00 a.m. a little pioneer bonnet. I will have to put a pic on my blog. Since I'm in charge of getting the youth in our stake organized clothing wise for their Pioneer Trek... I decided that I needed to make one and maybe an apron also! We have another meeting Sunday afternoon. One we are supposed to dress up (in Pioneer attire) so we shall see what else I get done this week!
Oh, and I did go (as you call them) Op. shopping on Saturday... I hit 2 large shops and looked at all the skirts (I was looking for cotton ones for the girls to make into pioneer skirts) and I did find a cute jumper for me. $4... can't make it for that!
Also found a few old books. Always a good day if I can read or sew!

Ohh I can just imagine you going around in your house, up and down the stairs scaring eachother.
I think I like the button photos in colour best. They project the "tenderness" of the ftrapped flowers...the soft pink againts the clear transparent glass/plastic.
They are absolutely a treasure. No wonder you are longing for the flea market season.
Hugs!

Love the B&W images but the colours are so delicate in colour. They look like dried flowers set in resin.I had a kit to do this as a child.
As for storage I so agree....I have just discovered the Bonne Maman Fruit Compote.Wicked jars to be used for a multitude of things!!!

hello Lizzie,
I loved hearing from you! Thanks for taking the time to write me and for your kind words!
How cool and amazing that you had a kit to make resin buttons as a child! I have never heard of that before. (Wish I had one of those too!)
I have also used the compote jars that you mention. They are really pretty and handy. I am always buying glass jars at flea markets, the sturdy old-fasioned kind with metal and glass lids. I have them in my sewing room and in the kitchen.
Wish you a wonderful weekend.
Warmly, Emily

Hi Jean!
I was thinking about using the buttons on needle cases. I just made one for mom, that is the secret gift I mentioned a while back. I decided it was better to use ties though as the needlecase needs to be able to be smaller or bigger depending on how many needles are being stored. I really want to make double pointed needle cases for my shop with the sizes written on the slots. I am thinking about printing up fabric with the numbers. I have tried one now with fabric markers but am not thrilled with the results.
Great that you are keeping busy reading and sewing! I wish I had more time to read. I spend too much time on the computer these days I am afraid.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Hello Jules,
Thanks so much with your comment and for trying to figure out my buttons for me! I have been so enchanted and fascinated by them. No, they didnt seem to be painted, rather they seem to have two layers, a black layer and a clear layer. I loved seeing the link you gave me. Thanks for taking and interest!

Yes, Beth, do that! My son smiles like crazy when we scare him. It is hilarious, he gets such a charge out of it. I guess it has to do with his love for play. The more the better. I wish the schools would lighten up and le them have more time for play.
