Before I bring you back to the Norske Folkemuseum's annual Christmas market sometime soon I am dying to share a bit of Norway's winter wonderland with you.
If you're not from the far North you might find it hard to believe how dark it is here in Oslo on a grey day at 8:45 am. Being able to see the beauty in all this gloom is very important to me. Being able to share it with you is also really nice. Truly, blogging has helped me to appreciate the wonder of daily life, and helped me to find beauty when at first glance I didn't notice anything special.
On our walk to nursery school we always see many birds. This one was soaring high up in the trees today on this grey day.
Many of the birds settled by the stream to find a crumb or two.
I think these two birds were double daring eachother to take a swim. They were both chickens though.
I thought this bird might be saying "don't follow the crowds, go your own way."
This little lady was saying quite clearly, "put away the camera, I am tired of waiting for you." She can be pretty strict.
Amazingly beautiful photos Emily!

Your little lady is the cutest! :-)
You are so lucky to be able to spend time outdoors while it is still light outside. Your photos let me take a part of it, thanks!

Love these photos, and had to write to say I adore the Norsk Folkmuseum, although it will be many years before I have a chance to go back! The Christmas market must be heavenly. I also enjoyed your post about Oleana, I have two of their sweaters that I wear all winter long.
Thank you for your Norway posts, they are such a treat!

That was a wonderful sight. The austere yet very beautiful grays with a spot of pale tawny browns here and there, and then all of the sudden that serious, beautiful little face with so much color in the skin and clothes. There is where your color is on these dark winter days! Beth

Hope that your Christmas is wonderful... maybe I will get some pic's taken in our travels to Oregon soon... hopefully I can get back to blogging soon too!
Take care!

I'm looking forward to exploring Winter with my son when he's a bit older, at 13 months it isn't much fun for him! Thanks for the amazing photos!! Your daughter may be stern but she's gorgeous!

Hi Jean,
Thanks so much for your lovely words today! Yes, you are so right Lilly brings heaps of joy! She has such marvelous laughter and seems to laugh every chance she gets and it is most infectious!
I made Lillys hat. It was supposed to be for me, but I didnt really like how it looked and she discovered it now this winter. Funny that it fits her perfectly!
The coat she is wearing is from a flea market. I have found her such lovely coats at various markets.
I hope you will be back to blogging soon and show some photos from your Oregon trip.
Happy festive holiday season!!!
Hugs from Emily

Beautiful photos. I think pigeons must be the same all over the world, as our pigeons in Australia look like that too. They don't get to see snow in many places in Australia though!

Hi Marcie!!!
How great to hear from you! Thanks for writing me! How are you? We are freezing cold here in Norway. Oh, man is it frigid here now. I refuse to go outdoors. :) Inside is nice and toasty and cozy so it is a good time of year to be a couch potato.
You are so sweet, nice to hear that you like to see what little odds and ends I have been up to. I feel a bit lazy at the moment, it is just so nice to have the kids home on vacation for a couple of weeks and take it easy with them. Cool that you are sewing too! Do you like it lots too? I dont know what to advise you to make. I still have trouble figuring out what I will make next. I think we should make what we want to! There are so many great tutorials out on the internet that you can learn to make virtually anything!
How are the kids all doing? Will they be up to midnight and beyond tonight? Per Øystein will take Sebastian out at midnight to see all the drunk Norwegians setting off fireworks. It is pretty insane! It has actually been pretty quiet here so far this year, usually they are setting them off every night for days in advance.
I sure wish we lived closer. I would love to chat with you! I was so sorry our visits didnt coincide this year. We dont know when our next visit to the US will be, we have very costly dr. appointments coming up next year and a trip to the US might be more than we can afford. I hope to be able to come though, but well just have to see.
Hope that all is fantastic with you and your beautiful family! Happy New Year to you all!
Much love, Emily
