These last summer days are perhaps some of the sweetest as it seems one wants to just drink up the last rays of the warm sun before she moves so low on the horizon as to not be much of any use at all.
The end of August has been delightful for us, with bright and sunny days giving us reason to spend as much time as we can outdoors.
With the slight change in temperature nature is also changing to more muted tones. This has made me want to sew and knit things in fall colors and I don't have much of a stash of autumn fabrics so I have been busy ordering some.
For me I feel the same way selecting fabrics as I did as a kid deciding which candy to buy.
For me, it is seldom such lovely instant gratifucation as I order most of mine online. On rare occasions I will splurge and buy something in a local fabric shop. I did that this week because I don't think I can buy this Norwegian Tilda fabric online. I have used quite a bit of the one in pink and finally had to have this red one too.
I bought these ribbons at the same time.
I even put them to good use if you would like to see.
Since a number of readers have asked me where I purchase my fabrics I thought it might be helpful to other fabric lovers to post some of my favorite shops here:
Sew Love Fabrics
I have gotten to know the owner of this Etsy shop and she is so kind and helpful. When one of the fabrics wasn't in stock she sent out the instock fabrics immediately and then sent the other later internationally for free!
Hancock's of Paducah
I love the new catalog they just sent me! I didn't even have to order it. I guess they send it out to all their customers.
Cabbage Rose has a nice selection of Japanese Lecien fabrics. I haven't ordered anything yet, but I may...
Pinweels has provided me with some gorgeous Japanese fat quarters. I adore their fabrics. Mom thought it would be wonderful for making clothes.
Sweet Peas and Angels is a shop I have made multiple purchases. They wrap the orders up so nicely in pretty ribbons.
Fabric Shack is rather cumbersome to navigate due to their huge selection but I am currently placing an order with them. I appreciate it that, like Sweet Peas and Angels, they allow you to order as little as 1/8 of a yard!
Shabby Fabrics is another shop I haven't actually ordered from yet, but they have an excellent selection of Japanese fabrics.
The Quilt Block is a shop I am dying to place a huge order with. If I did I would have plenty of the beautiful Daiwabo Japanese fabrics to select from!
The Fat Quarter Shop is a great place to go if you want all the big name fabric designers. Super selection but the prices are slightly higher than other shops and there is that annoying 1/2 yard minimum.
Fabric Suplies, another wonderful Etsy shop, has provided me with a recent purchase at good prices.
Oh, dear, I just realized. Please don't blame me if you now spend too much time or money due to the long list of shops here. I am also getting company in a few minutes and don't have time to list any more shops...
Welllll! So many shops to visit - It's better say nothing... just only I love that red big dot ribbon! It suits so well in your dolls :))

Hi Emily - i love that Tilda Fabric you purchased - the red is beautiful!
I love Hancock's too and Shabby Fabrics is wonderful - Jennifer is brilliant and they ship international for a flat rate of $11.50 if you spend over $100 regardless of how many yards you purchase. (Which isn't hard to do!!)
