Yesterday Lilly and I were off to a birthday party! The first dress wasn't quite right... Hand made by mom but a bit plain...
The next dress was more to her liking...
My mother made this frilly dress for my little one! The sweet cherry print fabric is from LakeHouse Drygoods.
The bag Lilly is holding is a little gift bag for the birthday girl.
Josefine, clearly knowegable about quilts due to early exposure of her mother's hobby, examined her gift quite closely with obvious appreciation. If you have been following my blog for awhile you might have noticed that I made a similar doll quilt for Lilly. At that time, I made extra blocks on purpose so that I would have enough for a second quilt.
For the label on the back I cut out a heart, hand embroidered it, and then needle turned and stitched the appliqué onto the back of the quilt.
Josefine's mother, my dear friend Anne Katrine, seemed pleased with the little gift I gave her too. These are some Japanese Quilt Gate fabrics which I bought on ebay.
This weekend is HOT! I am working on some new things and am excited to show you soon! Hope you are having a great weekend too.
What a sweet dress... your mom did a great job!

Lilly's little head and shape of her hair reminds of my girl's at that age. Good thing you capture these moments; soon she will be 16 and quite a beautiful young woman like mine was last night - the belle of the ball at her Sweet 16 party!

My little girl loves her frills, too. LOL! And that picture of Josefine checking out her quilted gift is just too hilarious!! Did she offer any tips after her inspection? LOL!

OOo the frilly dress is so darling- and perfect for a party.
Well done for signing your work. I keep sounding like a cracked record but everyone should sign and date their work. There are already so many heirlooms out there we know nothing about- who made them? When? Why? Having a passion for history and crafting these questions burn.:-) Lovely doll quilt.

I love both dresses!
But the second one, the frilly one, is amazing! Go grandma!
I also love the quilt you made, I think it's so special to give away handmade gifts, rather than the usual toys...

I wish I would have done more meaningful presents like this when my children were young. I love that Josefine liked her quilt!! So, so, so much better than Barbie or other toys like that! I can't wait to see what you're working on!

Oh the dress, the shoes and the hair clip - just breathtakingly sweet! What a little darling she is!
Posted by: Louise | August 02, 2008 at 01:57 PM
Well, you can always dip the plain dress in some textilepaint and make something special of it. The second quilt is beautiful!
Early exposure is never a bad thing, right? And... the japanese quiltfabrics are well chosen. Amazing.

What absolutely beautiful things and I love the fabrics in the mini-quilt.
I hadn't known what a favicon was...but now I do, I want one!
I hope you've had the most lovely time with your mother.
