The gardening season has begun unbelievably early this year for Norway. Sebastian and I have been weeding, raking and discovering signs of spring in our back yard. This past weekend my husband took the kids off on an excursion to the garden store and stocked up on some seeds and potting soil. We are getting an early start this year!
How I remember my own mother's joy at poking around in the garden each spring.
As a child I followed her around and listened and watched as she told me plant names and dug here and there. I wish I'd had an aptitude for it. I remember pathetically few plant names and really don't know much about how to grow them. But her great love and joy in gardening was conveyed.
A green thumb seems to run in our family but skip a generation. My mom's mother gardened but without so much knowledge and passion as her own father. My Sebastian has inherited the green thumb. He just throws himself into planting, digging, planning, choosing plants, etc. I couldn't be more pleased.
The beautiful summery images here are shots of my mother's gardens. I miss being home in the summer to see them. There are just too darn many bugs and heat waves for our little family there that time of year.
Beautiful garden. So colourful. I really like rose gardens. Carrots and other vegetables are eaten too fast so we stop growing them. We have a lot of fruit trees and shrubs. Wishing you a rich harvest.

Lovely garden shots! Hmmm, bugs...you wouldn't be talking about midcoast Maine, would you?! That's why I am so in love with the winter...NO BUGS! I'm excited about spring, but sad we will only have a couple of weeks until the black flies start. Then come the horse flies, the mosquitoes, and finally the stink bugs. Ick. It never ends.

Oh, you're getting me in the mood for gardening, too! Unfortunately, it's still freezing here, with more snow on the way. We have started a pot of lime basil in the window, because my 6 year old loves to watch things grow. He also has an apple seed sprouted in a pot. He thinks we'll be picking apples from it this summer. :-)

I love those Icelandic Poppies. They are one of my favorite flowers. I see your sense of color reflected in the garden pictures too.

Beautiful garden shots! I wish I had a green thumb...I have tried my hand at gardening three times, all with poor results. I really need a friend who lives close by who can teach me what I am doing wrong!

Those pictures are delicious, especially after the snow this week. And I just saw some crocus or something peeking up right before it started snowing! I guess that's the way of it.
