Sebastian and I took the train downtown for an outing just the two of us today.
The big ferry to Denmark has long been a popular site from our train window.
I just had to go back to Purpur, my favorite flower shop in Oslo.
Going inside and seeing the pussy willows sure made it feel like springtime!
Purpur also has the lovliest gifts. These dresses are by Volt and are remade from old sweaters.
I was disappointed that Guanako wasn't open today. The yarn store being closed didn't seem to fase Sebastian in the least however. Gazing at this lovely baby sweater in the window was a delight, but the extent of my yarn shopping today.
The next shop: Skaperverket was a big hit for both of us. Sebastian had toys to look at and play with.
I looked at unusual and beautiful ceramic.
I spoke with the woman working in the shop who designed and made this Boman skirt. I was quite impressed by her work and love the leaf pattern on the skirt.
After several hours of walking and enjoying the sites downtown we returned home and relaxed all together in the hammock. Sebastian took this great picture of Lilly giggling. You can just catch a glimpse of my feet.
Now everyone is asleep and I should have gone to bed awhile ago. With my husband's promise to let me sleep in tomorrow I am staying up late working on my babushkas.
She just needs a bit of blush and she will be done.
I am trying various things, some faces are embroidered and others are painted. Some faces are cloth and others are made of felt. I am having fun with the design. These flowers appliques I have handstitched this time instead of using the machine.
Now I really do have to go to sleep.
Sounds like you had a good day in town today... ehhh...yesterday (better go to bed myself now)... Did you buy anything exciting? What a bummer that the yarn shop was closed.
I like your babushkas. Love the face one the top one here... so cute. What kind of paint do you use for painting their faces?

Fabulous day! I love going to the florist, even though I never have any cash to buy flowers ;) By the way, your babushkas are really wonderful.

Isn't that just the best thing, staying up late because you know you can sleep in the next day!
Jeg tror jeg må sjekke ut den Purpur-butikken, nå har du fristet skikkelig flere ganger.

Oh, those one on one trips are just the best. I get to do that a lot with my little one, but not with the bigger girl since she's always at school. I am tempted to take her out this afternoon, just the two of us. I think she deserves it!

What a wonderful day out - I love your photos, particularly the hyacinths and willow. x

I really love the babushka dolls. You are so talented :) I wish I could snap photos like yours. They always look very professional and bright. Any tips?

Emily, looks like you had a great outing! One on one is always so great! We did that when we could, but I think my kids best one on one or close to it.... 2 to one was with my folks! Whenever they came to visit us or vise-versa they would tell the kids to think of something they wanted to do on a date with Papa/Gramma. Then they would take them just them and the grandparents... they called it their date with the kids! It was nice, the kids would come back all puffed up (a little praise from the grands is always nice!) feeling like they were the only one that my folks thought of all day. They still talk of those days.
Emily, your dolls are so cute and sweet, how can you sell them? I have a pattern (it's an old one, made when my youngest was around 3/or/4... she is 23 in June) it's for a Topsie-Turvie Doll... ever seen one? Head on top and one of the bottom and the dress in between is different fabrics. Really cute... guess I can go pull that out and see who makes it. Take care... enjoy the time with the family.... we are having a blizzard as we speak/type! Jean

Lovely, lovely photos of a beautiful day. And babushkas are wonderful. I love ethno craft.

You've got a new fan here -- you are one crafty lady! Congratulations on a fine day out with your son. Looks like you know a lot of places in Oslo that I don't. I'm from Alaska originally, but I've been here for 2.5 years. Do you ever go to the Oslo S-n-B? Tuesdays aren't good for me, so I've never had a chance to go. And I haven't ever schlepped out to the Lillestrøm S-n-B. But it's nice to get to know (at least bloggily) another Oslo knitter/crafter. :)

Your outing seems so perfect! I used to enjoy trips into the city like this with my eldest, back when we had only one child. It becomes rather a challenge with four ...
Your babushka dolls are incredibly beautiful.

The babuskas are some of the most beautiful dolls I've ever seen.
I love their sweet faces, the mix of pattern and color. Wonderful!
