Last winter I was completely taken with the combination of wool and silk. I made several variations of wristwarmers with vintage dupioni silk and felted or vintage sweaters and scarves.
That is one aspect about this project that I really like: all materials are reuse of castoffs or flea market purchases. Actually, for this pair everything is unused items I found at different flea markets. When I gathered these materials together I was so psyched by how well the colors harmonized.
The main section of this pair is made from the ends of a very nice woven wool scarf. I wish though that I hadn’t included the fringe. It is over the top. I could just fix that now…
The pretty flower boarder is made from strips of heavier weight cotton fabric. The silk edges I intentionally left unsown as I liked airy, wispy effect. However, I didn’t find it to be functional as threads kept unraveling. I would really like to find a way to keep the beauty of the raw edges while ensuring that the threads stay put.
Wow, this is something I call creative use of old materials. Those materials are really like meant for each other, simply beautiful. Thanks for reading and liking my blog and leaving such dear comments. I'm looking forward to your other crafting projects. As a reply to your question my daughters are 18months and 3 years and as I'm writing this they are trying to get me out of the house to enjoy the snow last night brought to us..so got to go now.
