Mom taught me to knit the first time when I was about 5 or 6. Being the soul of patience she lovingly taught me again a few years later and then it stuck pretty well. I made my first sweater in high school and was hooked.
The gorgeous hand knit sweaters “everyone” wore in Norway was part of what made me fall for the country I now call home. That was in 1989. I loved seeing women knitting (usually at lightening speed!) on the train or subway. Apparently they used to be allowed to knit during classes in school. However, these days even Norwegian children have taken to wearing polar fleece rather than hand-knit.
In any case here is a pair of mittens I just finished for my little one (2 years old).
